I love bun hairstyles and I think I’ve worn every type of easy hair bun created. LOL! I was feeling a little sassy when I came up with this particular bun hairstyle. Trust me, it’s not your normal ballerina bun. LOL!
Just some quick background on what led to my super-sized bun:
I started to feel guilty about being sick and not putting any water on my hair for two weeks. So I did a quick shampoo on my scalp only and cowashed the length and ends. Next, I styled my hair into an old-school wet wrap by brushing the hair around my head. Then I sat under my soft bonnet dryer until my hair was completely dry. It’s an older one that’s about 200-300 watts, not much heat.
Once my hair was dry, I followed it up with lite flat iron with my 2″ maxi glide (flat plates, no pins). I had the temp low, around #3. According to the chart the company sent, the temp was 277 degrees. If you need help with the temperature guide, I have a Maxiglide temperature chartdirect from the manufacturer.
Now on to details of my super-sized bun hairstyle:
I was looking at a nice-sized bun someone posted on Long Hair Care Forum (LHCF) and it was huge but cute. So I decided I wanted to give it a go but I didn’t have any type of filler for the bun. I ended up just using bobby pins with no filler and hoped it would turn out okay.
This is the bun I ended up with for school Saturday morning. It turned out larger than my inspiration but there is no right or wrong way to mold bun hairstyles, so I went with it.
This bun was so big that I caught someone in the elevator trying to see if I had weave in it. I was saying to myself, “Naw boo! It’s all mine…get you one like this.” LOL! I need to stop, but I did feel a serious sense of pride knowing that my bun was that big without anything added.
Yes, it took up most of my head. From the front, it was unassuming but once I turned around, it was like her it is in all its glory.
P.S. I’m thinking about posting makeup looks. I got lazy for a while and started just doing natural looks only. My latest hairstyle for class was a cute braidout but my vanity got the best of me.
ETA: I’m having a crazy thought. I wonder if I can take a styrofoam ring and wrap it with fabric then braiding hair to make a base for my bun! I see a project coming! Please share this with your friends and subscribe for more hairstyles and healthy hair care tips.
What’s the craziest thing you’ve done to your hair? What hairstyle did you try that made you proud?
