Henna Wash Day: Adding Strength and Color

I changed things up this week and we had a henna wash day. Cherrelle (my hair) absolutely loves henna and other Ayurvedic powders. She has been at her healthiest and grown the most when I use henna in my regimen. So, you know it’s time to add it back.

Now, it is still summer to me but the kids have gone back to school here. However, Cherrelle is not worried about that she said it’s summer still and she wants to do some wash n go’s. In my last wash day post, I shared that she has been asking for me to let her loose to do her thang and I finally agreed.

So, if you follow me on Instagram, get ready for selfies with big hair. It’s coming and don’t say I didn’t warn you. LOL!

Anywho, let’s get down to business. You know I will cut up all day if you let me. *Singing, “I gotta be me!”

Pre-Poo – I steamed my hair to open my cuticles. Then I kicked off this henna wash day by using my Jamila henna mix as the pre-poo. My hair was still damp from steaming and I always apply on damp hair.

Shampoo– I used Creme of Nature Argan Oil Shampoo (sulfate-free). I only needed one shampoo to remove the remainder of the henna mix.

Condition – I used my Suave Almond & Shea Butter Conditioner in the shower because my hair felt slightly rough. I knew this would knock it out and soften it back up…of course it did.

Deep Condition – I still decided to deep condition just to make sure my moisture levels were correct. Bad idea. I’ve used the same deep conditioning mixture before but this time it gelled together and I end up with tiny white beads in my hair. I rinsed most of it out but I still have a few. No, I’m not going to stress it. I have another wash day coming and I will get it out at that time. BTW, my hair was soft after I rinsed what I could out. *Kanye shrugs*

Ayurvedic Deep Condition Products
Leave-ins– I let my hair air dry for a few hours before I put in my leave-ins. OK, so I fell asleep and did not get to it for a few hours. Don’t judge me. LOL! Anywho, I used a ton and didn’t realize it until I was pulling them together for the picture below. I do not know what that was about but ok. LOL!

Henna Wash Day Leave Ins
Here are my leave-ins in order:

  • Aphogee Pro-Vitamin Leave in
  • Giovanni Direct Leave in
  • Dudley’s PCA Moisture Retention
  • Saravun’s Broccoli Hair Butter (first time trying…shopping my stash again for unopened products.)
  • Herbal Essences’ Touchably Smooth Split End Protector (just on the last 3″)
  • Perfectly Pure’s Shea Butter to seal my ends (this is not a whipped shea butter)

After everything was completed, I just put my hair up in these two buns and called it a day. LOL!

Henna Wash Day Air Drying
Well, that’s how I use henna on my wash day. Most of my grey hairs are colored, but I have a few that put up a fight. My hair is always stronger after using henna. My hair responds the same way to henna as if it was a protein…without the breakage. I do have a post coming that has more details about the results of mixing henna and hibiscus because that is still a popular topic.

I am stalking watching the tracking like a hawk. It’s shipping from VA so it’s only taking 2 days to get here.
