Nupur Henna is one of the most popular brands of pre-blended henna powders. The product contains multiple Ayurvedic powders that are said to help with hair growth, hair loss, and overall hair health. Henna alone is great for strengthing hair and I have seen an improvement in my hair from using it over the years. Most people love the convenience of not having to purchase multiple powders separately to blend their own treatment mixture. With Nupur
Most people love the convenience of not having to purchase multiple powders separately to blend their own treatment mixture. For most, it’s simply more economical to use Nupur. With Nupur Henna you can simply add water and you are able to use the product with no further blending needed. However, there are some who like to add other powders to the package or who prefer to blend their own henna pack. So, I decided to do
I decided to share a few recipes and tips on mixing Godrej Nupur Mehndi Henna or pure henna. You can use the recipes below to mix any brand of henna and not solely for Nupur Henna. Conditioning:
- Mix Nupur or henna with coconut milk to desired consistency and allow it to sit overnight. Then apply to the entire head.
- Mix 1 package of henna with coffee, Amla Oil, Aubrey Organics White Camellia Conditioner, honey, and almond oil. Mix Nupur with water and oil let it sit for 2-3 hours. Then add conditioner before applying to hair.
- Mix Nupur with moisturizing herbal tea (marshmallow, hibiscus, etc), honey, and oil. May add one egg to the mix.
Coloring:
- Mix 1/2 cup henna with dark coffee to a pudding consistency and let it sit for 4 hours. Next add one egg, 1-2 teaspoons of olive oil. In a separate bowl mix 1/2 cup of indigo and water to a pudding consistency. Then add this to the henna mixture, if you omit the indigo, mix more henna to cover your entire head. Sit under dryer for 1 1/2 hours and rinse
- Mix henna with very warm water, eucalyptus oil, olive oil, and a little apple cider vinegar. Let the mixture rest overnight.
- Mix henna with water, lemon juice, honey, olive oil, and water. My grays are a copper color

Tips for using Henna:
- Strand test- Take some hair from your brush or comb and apply henna on the hair. The color and texture would be the same on your head. You can determine if you need to make tweaks to the recipe without wasting time and product
- ALWAYS use gloves when applying and washing out the henna. Having orange hands is no fun…believe me. The color is difficult to get off nails and you might have to buff them if you don’t wear gloves.
- Wrap yourself in an old towel or put on clothes you don’t mind throwing away before applying henna.
- Apply Vaseline or any petroleum jelly generously along your hairline and at the back of the neck. This will help prevent staining on the skin.
- Soak your henna and water mixture overnight. Do not add other ingredients until you are about to apply unless you are not wanting any color to release.
- You can replace water with yogurt in the henna paste to make your hair softer.
- The soaked paste should be the consistency of a pudding.
- I always shampoo my hair before applying henna. No conditioner. I do apply oil to make it easier for the mixture to rinse out. Also, I apply the henna on towel-dried, semi-wet hair.
- Always apply henna in sections using a color brush or fingers.
- Roll or twist in the sections and pin them on the top of your head. You can use sectioning clips. Put on a shower cap to prevent dripping.
- Only leave the mixture on for 4 hrs if the acidic mix is used; otherwise, you can leave it on overnight.
- Wash out ALL of the henna. It is very important to wash out all of the henna from your hair because the particles will stick to your hair and scalp. This may lead to dryness, roughness, irritation, and dandruff.
- Apply henna somewhere in your home that is easy to clean and resists staining. Orange walls are not fun!
- Wash until the water runs clear through the hair. You can use the dunking method to rinse hair out in a sink.
- Always use a conditioner after you wash out the henna. Henna can be very drying to the hair and a moisturizing conditioner will return the softness.
- Try and avoid using a blow dryer on the same day. Towel dry or if you have to use a hairdryer and use the low heat setting.
- Don’t wash your hair for at least 2 days after you have applied henna if you are going for color results.
- Never use anything that says ‘Henna-based hair color’ or Henna powder that comes in more than one shade. These contain extra coloring chemicals that can cause a reaction. That was my first experience with henna. Use Nupur Henna or other body-quality henna that is a basic ayurvedic powder with no additives.
I use Jamila henna. I have tried the Nupur henna but I did not like the results. I discuss what happened in my Nupur Henna Review post. I also mix henna with other Ayurvedic powders for Ayurvedic treatment and Ayurvedic co-washes. I have also discussed mixing henna and hibiscus.
Do you have any tips or recipes that you would like to share? How do you make using henna easier? Have you ever tried henna?

Grow It Girl says
@Dyonteniece My hair has a reddish brown tint to it. I love it b/c it's the color I normally dye it. If I add acid to my henna mix it will get brighter
