Have you seen the preview of the March edition of JET Magazine? JET Magazine’s March Beauty of the Week, Taonaya Fleury is a natural hair beauty from Florida. She is absolutely beautiful and it is so nice to see JET Magazine embrace natural beauty. Congratulations to Taonaya on being the March Digital JET Beauty of the Week. Taonaya is rocking the heck out of her TWA (teenie weenie afro). The statement she gave when asked why she wants to be a JET Beauty was perfect.
PHOTO COURTESY OF JET MAGAZINETaonaya stated, “This section has a long-standing reputation of showing women of color in a positive light. When I first saw these photos as a little girl, they made me feel both beautiful and proud.” I grew up reading JET magazine and it is a far cry from the urban male magazines. She is dead on with JET being known for showing people of color and more importantly, women of color with class and dignity.
Now here is the big news and why you are finding this post…If you have ever wanted to be the JET beauty of the week, here is your chance. Yes, I am very serious. I recently found out about this and had to share it with my readers. If you or someone you know might be interested, please read on!
JET magazine recently announced a change in how they are choosing upcoming JET beauties. The magazine recently launched the JET Digital Beauty competition. The launch of the competition will give those who otherwise would not receive an opportunity in becoming a JET Beauty.
According to Kyra Kyles, Managing Editor for JETMag.com, “Our JET Beauty is consistently one of the top-ranked destinations on our site.” Additionally, “We wanted to find a way to open up a new avenue to highlight gorgeous women of color and character, meanwhile allowing direct feedback from our visitors on who makes the cut.”
Any ladies interested in more information on competing for the JET Digital Beauty must visit JETMag.com. According to the information I received, 10 beauties are select by the JET magazine staff and guest judges for the month will select the final five beauties who will compete for the overall title. The winner is selected from the five finalists by public vote on JETMag.com and will have a feature on the site for one month. She will receive consideration from JET magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Mitzi Miller as a potential JET Beauty for the print edition. How awesome is that, ladies?
