Finding great heat protectors for fine hair is hard work…I know because I had to search high and low for the right product for my oldest daughter’s hair. No one likes to have their hair weighed down by a ton of products and for my fine haired divas, this is absolutely true. Finding lightweight products of any kind is an absolute must for fine hair.
When choosing heat protectors for fine hair, it’s always best to choose a spray. Serums tend to be heavier and are more likely to weigh the hair down. Serums are best for those with thicker hair, but if you choose to use a serum only use a small pea sized amount.
I have thick hair and I still prefer minimal product. I hate to feel products on my hair and I love having a ton of body. If my hair isn’t swinging after flat ironing, I’m not a happy camper. LOL
I have a few sprays that I think are perfect and won’t weigh your hair down.
Agadir Argan Oil Hair Shield 450 – Personally, this is one of my top two favorites. I love the way the entire product line smells. Hair Shield 450 is a spray treatment that protects, repairs, and adds shine. One of my favorite benefits is that it also contains a humidity blocker that reduces frizz. I need all the help I can get!
Silk Elements MegaSilk Heat Protection Spray – I started using this spray when I began heat styling my daughter’s hair and it has never let me down. I can pick this up at Sally’s and it’s very inexpensive. I don’t particularly like the smell because it has a typical hair product smell. If you want something that is relatively unscented, this is a great product for you to try.
Chi 44 Iron Guard – My other top two favorite…you can’t go wrong with Chi. Plus, I love the smell. I have to say this is an extremely lightweight product that I use before blow drying and flat iron without any issues. Iron Guard will leave your hair full of body.
TRESSEMME Thermal Creations – A new updated version of the previous Heat Defense heat protector. This is another inexpensive product that you can pick up almost everywhere, including Walmart.
I will give an honorable mention to Beyond The Zone’s Turn Up The Heat. It’s a great product, but if you are not careful, you can easily use too much and weigh down your hair. If you try this one, use it with a light hand and a ton of caution. Trust me!
What are your favorite heat protectors?

Best I have ever used is the Karmin Spray Heat Protector =)

The best I have ever used is the GKhair ThermalStyleHer heat protectant. Best against heat prior to styling. It seals moisture into the hair making each hair strand strong and healthy before blow drying. Truly an amazing product. 🙂 <3

I personally think the Karmin Spray Heat Protector is the best

The Tressemme is one of my faves. I don’t use heat on my hair often, but I do enjoy that one. Great list round up.
Bailey says
I’m terrible at remembering to use it, but I like the Tresemme options. Great roundup!

Thanks for this list, I have fine hair and am constantly on the search for a good thermal spray. It sounds like the CHI would work best for me!

Great tips! I like Tresemme
Destany says
I’m awful about protecting my hair from the flat iron!
Tiki says
Oh no, Destany! I had a bad experience that made me diligent about using them. I hate being forced to cut my hair.
MarciaF says
I needed a list like this since I often forget to protect my hair from my flat iron.
Tiki says
When my hair was shorter, I was super guilty of not using any products. Then I damaged my hair and my collection began. lol

I need to check out Agadir Argan Oil Hair Shield 450

Great picks! I also really like the Alterna spray on heat protector (in the Caviar line!)
Tiki says
Tiptoes off to check it out! 🙂

This couldn’t have come at a more perfect time! I just got my past-the-hips hair cut to mid-back, and although I’m missing it badly, I know it was necessary. I’m definitely going to give some of these a try to make my now frizzy short-er hair a little better. 🙂
Tiki says
Awesome! I’m tempted to cut again myself, but I think I’m not going to do any major cutting until I get to classic length.

I love the 180 Pro Leave in Heat Protectant from Sally Beauty. It smells great but doesn’t weigh my hair down and works!
Tiki says
I was just looking at that the other day when I placed an order. Let me double back and grab it.
Lola Seicento says
What a great list, Tiki! The Agadir Argan Oil Hair Shield 450 sounds like something that I would really love!
Allison says
I’ve got coarse hair but the Agadir Argan Oil protector sounds great for any type of hair!
Tiki says
They all work great for all hair types, but the Chi and Agadir are my faves for sure.
Candice says
I love Chi silk infusion but its no longer available, I don’t use heat very often so I’m still holding on to my last dime, when its done I’ll stick with the same brand, gonna give the iron guard a try.
Tiki says
Candice, Sally’s has a generic version of the Silk Infusion. I have it and it’s called Silk Remedy. I swear I’m like the heat protector queen. lol
Candice says
Thanks Tiki, I will be sure to check it out!
