I love a good wig! Wigs are one of my favorite protective styles. OK, it’s one of my favorite bad hair day styles too. I just love the versatility of wearing wigs; because, I can have short hair today and curly hair tomorrow, wearing a wig allows me to do change my style with ease. Let me confess that I do have a stash of wigs. Yes, I mean brand new, still in packages, and ready for me to give them a twirl. Umm…Maybe, I am a hoarder. Nah! Granted, I just turned half of my living room into my beauty room, but we will just blame that on needing better lighting. *wink*
Last year, I had an opportunity to write a guest post for the Vivica Fox Hair blog. My topic was caring for your hair while wearing a wig. Somehow, I totally forgot to share that information here on the blog until recently…don’t stone me! I am not going to share the full post but if you would like to read the article in its entirety, you can use this link at the end of this post.
Reading the post made me laugh a little. The perfectionist in me wants to edit the post…oh how I wish I could magically make a few changes. LOL!
Here are the basics of caring for your hair while wearing a wig:
1. Braiding – make sure your hair is properly braided and secured.
2. Moisturizing- to prevent dryness and damage continue to moisturize daily.
3. Proper coverage – place a barrier (wig cap or scarf) between your hair and the wig to prevent friction and damage.
4. If you are wearing a wig long-term, continue to shampoo, condition, and care for your hair as you would normally.

I have other thoughts and opinions on caring for your hair under a wig; however, I will discuss those at a later time. I wanted to share this original post and then I can follow up on my other tidbits later. Be sure to subscribe to Just Tiki to read upcoming hair care and wig posts.
