Oh, snap! I think the September Play by Sephora killed the subscription bag game. Now, I heard some people were a little upset about the August bag and some even said it was the worst box today date. I personally liked the bag because it had items that I wanted to try and some that I need to try. The August theme was “The Eye Openers”, so the items in the bag were focused on moisture and a couple of makeup items. My under-eye is the driest part of my face, so I was here for the balm and moisturizer.

I know I’m a little late with the September bag but better late than never. So, while I’m waiting for my October bag, I’ll share with you the goodies that I received for September. The theme for September was “The Unbasic Basics” and included a touch of everything from skincare to hair care. That works for me! The bag actually made me happy dance. Don’t judge me! LOL!
With every bag that arrives, the first item seen when opening the shipping box is the monthly Play card that introduces the theme of the bag. I hate to admit that I have yet to use my Play card, but I really need to use that puppy. If you don’t know, the Play card gives you a free one-on-one tutorial and 50 extra Beauty Insider points with any purchase. I normally purchase items online but I would love to receive the 50 extra points. I wish there was a little online code that you could use to receive the points.
Can I make a confession? I have never tried any of the Sephora branded makeup items. I’ve heard they have some really awesome items and their concealer has been sitting in my Loved Items since it was released last year…I think it was last year. Anywho, the August bag had a plum eyeliner that I’m looking forward to trying and the September bag had a pretty Rouge Shine Lipstick in the shade Love Spell. It’s a pretty light pink shade that I think will pair great with a slightly darker lip liner.
I think what I was most happy to see in the bag was the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper. I have to say that my Kat Von D Ink Liner is currently my fave because it makes my life so much easier. If you are all about that winged liner life, her liners are the bomb. My Ink Liner is still packed up, so receiving the Tattoo Liner made me a very happy girl. I really want to see them side-by-side to see the difference. I heard the tip on the Ink Liner is sharper, but I can’t confirm that right now.
The Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel was another product in the bag that made me happy. I have a few brow gels, but amazingly, I don’t have any clear gels. That’s kind of cray cray considering how my natural brows look. Like I can legit get away with taming my brows with a clear gel and nothing else. I used to hate having super thick brows and trimmed the mess out of them during the thin brow phase. I’m just glad those puppies grew back! LOL! I seriously can’t wait to try this brow gel.
Each bag comes with a bonus perfume and this bag came with the Atelier Cologne in Sud Magnolia. I’m still not sure how I feel about this one. I’m seriously on the fence about the scent. I’m thinking it would be one of those “it has to grow on you” fragrances.
I have a few Ole Henriksen products in my stash that I still need to try. I think I may even have a sample of the Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation hiding somewhere. I swear I can’t wait to unpack and get settled in. Anywho, from what I’ve read, the Sheer Transformation is a moisturizer that can double as a primer. I think I might have to test that claim out and skip my usual primers to see how the Sheer Transformation does on its own. If you’ve used it as a primer, let me know how it worked for you. I’m curious!
The last item in the bag was the Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Night Cap Overnight Protector. Goodness! That is a long name! Whew! I actually want to try this out. I love applying conditioners and leaving them on overnight, so the idea of this product sounds good to me. Plus, it claims that you can feel the benefits of the Night Cap for up to five washes or one week. I’m all about products that add shine and softness, especially with temps changing.
Well, that’s all of the items and details for the September “The Unbasic Basics” Sephora Play bag. I’m looking forward to putting these goodies to use. I think I might create a makeup look using the items and share that with you this week. My poor face has been makeup-free for far too long. I seriously stayed up last night just to wash off all of my foundation bottles and tubes. My OCD got the best of me. Sigh! Oh well!
