Southern Style Fried Potatoes Recipe

Foods that can bring back childhood memories are the best. My first memories of having fried potatoes were of my mom’s boyfriend Will cooking them in the morning for breakfast. I was amazed to see him cook, but also that they tasted so freaking good. These southern-style fried potatoes are so simple to make and don’t have many ingredients but are tasty.

The funny thing is, my mother never attempted to cook these for me. It was something only Will cooked. So after he died, I didn’t eat them again for a long while. It wasn’t until I got older and got married that I was determined to learn how to perfect them. Now, I burned a few potatoes along the way trying to get it right. But, I finally got them to taste how I remembered them. Turns out the trick was adding a couple of tablespoons of water. Game changer!!!

I recorded this video for my daughter Ayanna. She now has those same wonderful childhood memories of eating fried potatoes. They are something that I cooked for her that she loved. She is grown and on her own now. One day she asked if I could show her how to cook them. I did my best to show her on facetime but decided to make this video. So, Ayanna, this is for you. Love you!

Have you ever had southern-style fried potatoes or fried potatoes?
