Yes, I know it has been two weeks since I washed my hair. I’m loving the straight hair just a little too much and my scalp even cooperated. Now, that was a miracle. Normally, my scalp acts a fool after one week of not being washed. I did manage to get a few videos recorded while my hair was straight and I managed to squeeze in a length check before my roots snapped back. Oh yes, the roots cut up on me. I walked three times in the last week and I felt my roots shrinking after each walk.
Can I mention that I have no idea how I ended up being 20 weeks post? This was not my intention but I am glad I know how to stretch without my hair breaking at the line of demarcations. A big help to me is washing in braids. I have no idea when I am going to texlax. I know for sure I am coloring next week.
Side-note: I am dying to be able to run again. If you haven’t noticed in my latest videos, I gained weight from not being able to work out all summer. *tears* I am so ready to get back to work and lose weight. I can’t wait to be back at my regular size. I’ve been fat far too long.
Anywho, let’s get back to my hair. I ended up washing because it was far too long since my last shampoo and I could smell my scalp. That is not cute or sexy. Your boo goes to hug you and you are praying he can’t smell your scalp. No Bueno! What? I know I’m not the only one!
Moving along…you know I joined the no heat challenge with Jen from Just Grow Already and Jay from Relaxed Thairapy. So, I have a month of no heat drying and styling methods planned. Today, I will share my most used method to air dry hair while stretching but let’s talk about my wash day first.
Pre-poo: Oddly, I detangled before my pre-poo without any product in my hair. Umm…I saw a few broken hairs but nothing that made me want to curse. My pre-poo was Aubrey Organic Honeysuckle Rose Conditioner mixed with EVOO and grapeseed oil. I meant to add honey but totally forgot. Ugh! No wine was involved…
Steam: After I applied my pre-poo, I sat under the steamer until the water ran out. Sorry, I can’t tell you the exact time. I was busy working on my blog schedule while I was under. So, time was not a factor for me. I said I would just stay under until the low water alarm went off. Goodness, my hair and scalp love a good steaming!!!
Shampoo: I shampooed with One ‘n Only Argan Oil Shampoo. That was an all-out brawl trying to use that stuff. I have had it for a while along with other shampoos but that stuff tried to solidify on me. I had to add water and use more than normal to get it to work. I still have to do a review. Oh, this incident will be in my review. Humph!
Condition: In my September Birchbox post, I stated I would use the Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair Deep Conditioner Mask for this wash day. It wasn’t enough for me to review, but I will share my first impression in a separate post. I used the entire 1oz jar, straight up with no additives. I left it on for 10 mins and rinsed it with warm water. The directions said 3-5mins but I was cooking and lost a few mins in there. Just keeping it real…
Leave-ins: Okay, I did something a little different this time. I went to look for my Aphogee Pro-Vitamin spray but I could not find it and I was feeling a little too lazy to really dig for it. Hell, it’s here somewhere. So, I decided to experiment. I put Giovanni Direct Leave-In on my roots and length and I put Crece Pelo Leave-In on the last 2” of my ends. OMG! I love it. I might have to keep this one up. I oiled my hair from the roots to the ends with Myra Aso’s Marula Coconut Hair and Scalp Oil. Okay, that oil has been in rotation a lot lately. I need to give you all a full review. So, it looks like from the one post I owe you two reviews and one first impression. Got it!
Now, this far along in stretching the best method, I’ve found to air dry hair is the banding method. I needed to stretch my roots because I want to braid my hair down to wear a wig or two this week. I will bring you the results/finished product on Friday. I think banding is one of the best ways for me to air dry and stretch my hair. If I air dry with all of my hair out it tends to tangle. We won’t mention the fact that I end up looking like Mufasa’s little cousin. Oh, Girl, it’s not cute at all. It gets to a certain point that I will start looking like Cousin It. I have way too much hair for one person.

How was your wash day? Did you try anything new?
Jen of JGA says
“Mufasa’s little cousin!” I just spit coffee all over my keyboard lol. I wasn’t ready haha. But girl do you not remember that Mufasa had great mane! That luster, that thickness, that swang lol! Looking Mufasa-esque is a good thing in my book haha.

Girl, you crack me up. This stuff gets big on me.

Hey Tiki! Gorgeous hair as usual girl! When you band, what kind of hair tie do you use and how do you get the indents out?
Thanks for sharing your #washdayexperience chica!

Thank you! I said I was going to do a banding post to show what I use and how I do it. Once I take the bands out comb through and moisturize, I’m good to go. You can also cross wrap and tie it tight and that will get rid of the dents.

I’m new on your page and the banding method seems like a great idea. I will try it when I take my cornrows down. Your hair is beautiful. How long is your hair now?
Tiki says
Well Welcome to my site!!! My hair is almost back at my hip. I’m posting a length check next week
Don't Touch the Hair says
I’ve never tried banding. Does it work well with shorter hair?
Tiki says
I would say as long as your hair is shoulder length it will work. If it’s short than that, it can still be done but it would be a little more difficult.

I love washing my hair in braids, it makes life so much more easier. Do you purchase your wigs in a store or an online retailer?
Tiki says
Yes, life is super easy when you wash in braids. I do a combo of both. There are certain wigs I can tell online that will look good. However, I go to my local BSS for the ones I’m not sure about. Plus, I can always find something new that I haven’t seen online in the store.
Kara (Kay's Ways) says
Yes I must try this banding method, I’m now like 14/15 weeks post so I’m going to have to bring out the big guns. Can’t wait to see how your hair turns out

Washing in braids and banding are my two best friends while stretching. I’m about to start braiding now…tired arms ahead. LOL
