Wash Day: Double Up On A Pre-poo

Last week, I discussed the last bits of roughness from using henna the other week. There are a few methods to pre-poo hair and this week I used two: oil only and oil and conditioner mixed together. Why two pre-poos? Adding two pre-poos gave my hair what it needed to get back to normal.

I can normally reverse the dryness with one or two wash days but this time I needed a third. Yes, the third time a charm and my hair is back to feeling soft and luscious. I did not add as many oils to my henna mix this time and I believe that caused the extra dryness.

I am currently at 14 weeks post and the shampoo process is a little different now because of the massive amounts of curlies hanging out at my roots. My method of minimizing breakage and tangles is completing my entire wash-day process in plaits. Yes, just call me Celie if you like because that’s how I roll.

Pre-Poo Hair On Wash Day In Celie Plait To Minimize Breakage

Let’s chat about my wash-day process.

Two Methods to Pre-Poo Hair and Restore Moisture During the Wash Day Process Using the Products Pictured
Pre-Poo: I coated my hair with grapeseed oil and left it on for a few hours while I did housework.
Detangle: I created small sections and sprayed each with Silk Elements Silken Child Detangler. I then braided each of the sections.
Pre-Poo #2: I mixed my last little bit of Elasta QP DPR- 11 with a heaping teaspoon of honey, and a tablespoon of EVOO. I covered my hair and sat under my bonnet dryer for 25 mins.
Shampoo: I wanted to use something mild and I went with Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose Shampoo. I followed it with a quick wash using my Shikakai bar.
Deep Condition: I mixed another teaspoon of honey with a tablespoon of Hemp Oil and EVOO into Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose Conditioner. Oh that’s my boo thang! Anywho, I steamed for 30 mins. Next, I covered my hair with a plastic cap and a hair wrap to deep condition overnight.
Leave Ins: Giovanni Direct Leave-In and sealed with Myra Aso’s Marula Coconut Hair and Scalp Oil.
I let my hair air dry for a bit and I took the plaits out. I then put my hair in two ponytails to finish air-drying in my Curly Tee Towel.
The next day I needed to get some recording done. I applied Agadir 450 Heat Protectant, did a light blow-dry, and rolled my hair using my Remington Hot Rollers.

My hair is back to being soft and I couldn’t be happier. Be sure to check out my video on how to pre-poo hair. Now, it’s time to go edit these vids that I recorded. Don’t forget to subscribe to me on YouTube.

I don’t have time to let my hair air dry for hours upon hours. It’s been like 3 hours and it’s still wet so how do you get the roots area to dry when it’s in the ponies?

My hair normally dries fast. However, if I’m in a hurry I use an old school bonnet dryer. The wattage is so low that it doesn’t do any damage.

I know I sound naive… did you rinse in between or did you just add each time. I need to work on my hair so badly. I will have to come back here for more tips.

Thank you for linking up with Creative Style Linkup! Have a blessed weekend!

It’s ok April. That’s what I’m here for. No, I didn’t rinse. I just added the conditioner on top of the oil.
